    Beautiful property in the country

    I recently stayed at the Renaissance Barga after several other overnights there previously. This was my first time as a Platinum member, though my husband has booked with his Platinum status before. I like this property a lot, and while I did receive a room upgrade, the room was quite small. The balcony was spacious though. I had let them know we were coming for our wedding anniversary, so it would have been nice to have a small surprise in the room – either way, I would stay again.

    First hotel stay post Covid shutdown

    Not far from Florence, about 2 hours west, you will find the Renaissance Tuscany. This was our 2nd visit here, but our first hotel stay post Covid. You could tell the hotel paid careful attention to the new procedures and protocol, featuring an automatic temperature scanner to allow access to the lobby. All other aspects of social distancing, masks in public areas and hand sanitizer everywhere were strictly followed.

    I had requested an upgrade on the app when doing the mobile check-in. We were granted an upgrade to a King suite, several levels above the basic room we booked. Because our rate included breakfast, I was offered 1,000 bonus points as a welcome amenity. My Titanium status led us to receive a welcome gift of macaroons in our room (a little stale, but it’s the thought that counts!).

    The pool area was lovely, and since the hotel was not near capacity, it was easy to relax and be separated from other guests. The breakfast was a bit underwhelming but given the new procedures I won’t ding them too
    much for that. It was certainly more expansive on my prior visit pre-Covid.

    Overall a lovely stay except for one front desk employee on the day of check out. I was granted my 4pm check out by 2 prior front desk associates, however my card stopped working at noon. When I asked to recharge the room key, the front desk associate (who was different from the 2 previous) was quite rude and abrupt and told me I should have been checked out. I explained that it was already granted by her colleagues due to my titanium status, and she remarked in a sarcastic tone. It created a disappointing ending for an otherwise lovely stay.

    It’s a nice hotel if you are looking to relax for a few days, as well as to explore some quieter parts of Tuscany. I would recommend!
