Old World Italian Charm
Nestled within the Dolomites in Northern Italy, not far for the Austrian border, you can find the charming city of Cortina. The unique Cristallo resort, part of the Luxury Collection, lives up to its reputation as you step back in time. This is a property that excels in old world charm with modern luxuries.
The Visit
StatusStay visited this resort in September 2020, while Covid-19 protocols were still heavily in place. During a long weekend visit, we found the property to be light in occupancy. Nonetheless, the tranquility in Cortina d’Ampezzo remained high.
The Room
Check-in was seamless and efficient and despite Marriott not deducting our SNA’s, the property had upgraded us to a King Suite.
Room 218 is well appointed with the charm of northern Italy. Equipped with two crystal chandeliers and beautiful paintings reminding you that you are in the heart of the Dolomites.
This corner King suite consisted of a small entry way, a large bathroom complete with a whirlpool bathtub, a separate living room and finally the main bedroom with a small walkout balcony. For 2, it was more than spacious and during the night it was completely silent.
In-Room Recognition
Our Titanium status was recognized with a lovely bottle of prosecco waiting in the room along with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries. After a long drive, this was the perfect way to begin the long weekend trip.
The Breakfast
Upon check-in, I confirmed that I would like free breakfast as my titanium amenity. Breakfast would normally be a buffet at this property, but due to Covid it is now a la carte (which we thoroughly enjoyed). There were plenty of options for any desire or dietary concern. The bread and pastry tower that started you off is to die for (the views from the breakfast table are not too shabby either).
The Spa
Included in the room rate, or in this case points rate, is access to the spa facilities including this relaxing indoor pool area as well as the sauna and steam rooms. Cristallo may be a bit off the beaten trail for many travelers visiting Italy. Cortina is usually not on ones primary city hit list, but StatusStay can vouch that it is certainly worth it. I mean can it get more relaxing than this?
